PARAPROFESSIONAL II - Instructional Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Passing score on the Para Pro Assessment or 48 college credits.
- Successful completion of criminal history background check.
- Proof of US citizenship.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read, write and speak English and perform simple math.
- Must be physically able to efficiently perform the duties of the position. Any physical disability which would cause the candidate to be a hazard to themselves or to others is considered disqualifying.
- Ability to hear conversational voice, with or without hearing aid.
- Good vision, with or without glasses.
- Ability to follow written or oral directions.
- Ability to work with all types of students under varied conditions.
- Previous experience working with children in various activity circumstances, preferred.
- Endeavors to obtain background in related fields of education.
REPORTS TO: Principal
Instructional Supervisor- Department of Curriculum
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise student(s) and assist the teacher when necessary.
- Keep student(s) on task for the programs taught by the teacher.
- Reinforce appropriate behavior in accordance with the teacher’s plan.
- Review/reinforce skills in the classroom (small groups, one-on-one instruction).
- Assist student(s) in the classroom (i.e. hand over hand for handwriting).
- Assist student(s) with feeding, if necessary.
- Assist student(s) with toileting/dressing, if needed.
- Listen and read to students.
- After each activity, assist with clean-up process so that the next activity can be started effectively and quickly.
- Prepare instructional materials.
- General office duties (i.e. duplicating, sorting, distributing, filing).
- Assist with playground supervision, bus loading/unloading, monitor the lunchroom, or other duties assigned by the Principal.
COMPENSATION:
In accordance with GTSPA contract.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
10 Months
VACATION:
There is no vacation time allotted to this position.
EVALUATION:
To be evaluated semi-annually in accordance with the Board’s policy on Evaluation of personnel.
